Before I posted this, I went and read about the switch because I didn’t know why they did it. It seems Dick York had injured his back making a movie, and was heavily into pain killers and steroid shots. Lots of episodes were written that had him sitting, lying, or otherwise not moving. If finally came to a head and he had to be hospitalized, and he bailed from the show. They brought in another Dick, but viewers weren’t happy and the ratings dropped.
